Tafel-tough and Tafel-tremendous!

Sunset/Moonlit Hike of Tafelberg - What an experience! A slow, steady climb at the beginning and then a steeper, rocky scramble to the top for sunset views (and plenty of wind) and then, headlamps on for a (careful) climb back down. (I did expect a few more tourists but I was the solo tourist in a group of about 20 Dutch locals.) To me, this was a unique experience and interesting terrain and scenery (arid, cacti, volcanic rock, etc). I'm used to coniferous forests and much 'wetter' ground. Even the views from the top (looking mostly East to West on a fairly flat island) were different but still a great sunset spot and great for pics. I'm a hiker and found this a moderate hike (only because the last stretch is steep and a bit precarious over nothing but rocks, and you have to be even more vigilant on the return portion to watch out for jagged volcanic rock and those pesky 'acacia tortuosa' thorny bushes!!). I was comfortable in shorts and regular trainers (versus hiking boots... Though, if you have them, ...wear 'em!) Don't expect a guided tour in the sense of historical/interesting info about the mountain, flora or fauna (unless I missed it all because everyone spoke Dutch)... but, if looking for something different, a bit more active and with some great views..., this is it! Our guides were super nice, very accommodating to everyone's pace, and available at all times for any questions (in any language)!
