History of Landhuis Brakkeput Mei Mei
Landhuis Brakkeput Mei Mei dates back to the early 18th century. It was once a thriving plantation where corn, beans, and cattle were cultivated. These products not only fed the slaves and livestock but were also sold to city residents and the crews of ships visiting Curacao.

Today, this tradition continues in the small ‘hofi’ (garden) behind the landhuis, where plantains, papayas, and local basil are grown for use in the restaurant.

The name ‘Brakke Put’ refers to a spring with brackish water. ‘Mei Mei’, meaning ‘in the middle’ in Papiamentu, distinguishes this landhuis from Brakkeput Ariba (above) and Brakkeput Abao (below).
